Social Events

Conferences are about more than sessions and trade shows – they’re your chance to mix, mingle and meet your colleagues from all over Alberta. The more connections you make, the stronger we are together! This year, we’ve expanded our social events to include morning yoga, art and cooking classes, and a collaborative art project – opportunities to strengthen your mind and body – as well as our traditional Saturday banquet and First-Timer’s reception. Delegates and guests are welcome. Read on and register early!

NOTE: For guests not staying at the Lodge, all meal tickets, including those for the closing dinner, can be purchased at the JPL Concierge Desk.

Scavenger Hunt

We'll be repeating the popular QR code contest! Keep your eyes peeled for the QR codes, hidden throughout the Jasper Park Lodge. (Hint: The first one will be at the Registration Desk – same as last year! See how easy this is?) Scan each one with your smartphone, answer the not-so-skill-testing question, and fill out your entry (in the daily Info-to-Go) to win a great prize. Drop it in the contest box at the Registration Desk by 3 p.m. on Saturday, April 27th. The winner will be announced at Saturday night’s dinner. Good luck and happy hunting!

Collaborative Art Project

Artist Janet Cole will be coordinating and creating an exciting art project at ALC – and you can be part of it! Together, we’ll create a visual representation of the strength, vitality and diversity of Alberta’s library community. We will be creating a two dimensional wall sculpture of a tree – and everyone is invited to create a leaf. At the Conference Closing Banquet, the finished piece will be presented to the Slave Lake Library, to hang in their reconstructed library, which will open in 2013.

Click below for full details, but here are the basics!

Create a leaf for the tree! Submit one leaf or submit many, but please keep these parameters in mind:

Your leaf can be made from paper, fabric, yarn, clay, foil, metal, acetate, glass, felt, beads, paint, wood or wire.

Leaves need to be roughly 2 inches by 2 inches, but can be any colour or texture.

Leaves can be abstracted or life-like.

All leaves need to have a place where a thin silver wire can be looped through, to facilitate hanging.

Feel free to include your name and library affiliation on the verso of your leaf.

Send your leaves BY APRIL 1st to: Lisa Wakefield,  Red Deer College Library, 100 College Boulevard, PO Box 5005, Red Deer, Alberta  T4N 5H5

Questions? E-mail Lisa Wakefield, ALC Social Convenor, or call (403) 342-3352.
